Rhinoplasty
(Nose surgery)

What It Is:

This surgical procedure reshapes the nose by reducing or increasing its size, removing a hump, changing shape of the tip or bridge, narrowing the span of nostrils, or changing the angle between nose and upper lip. It may also relieve some breathing problems. (Which means it may be covered by insurance.)

How It Works:

The skin of the nose is separated from its framework of bone and cartilage, which is then sculpted to the desired shape. The skin is then re-draped over the bone and cartilage framework. Some surgeons work from within the nose; others make a small incision in the column between the nostrils. After surgery, a splint is often applied to maintain the new nose shape.
